Some of the world’s most important journalistic photos from the past year will be on display from November 23rd - December 18th at this year’s World Press Photo Exhibition.

The event is being held at the Contemporary Culture Centre of Barcelona and will feature photos captured from around the world. Themes include: current affairs, war, sport, arts, entertainments, portraits and nature.

What is World Press Photo?

Founded in 1955, World Press Photo is one of the world’s largest and most prestigious annual press photography contests. To receive an award is the equivalent of an actor receiving an Oscar for a top performance in a movie.

The first photograph ever awarded back in 1955 captured a motor-cross competitor taking a tumble from his bike during a race.

These days the exhibition displays only the very best awards winning shots from photojournalism. Some of the photos can be very graphic but also very poignant, while others can capture unexpected moments of beauty.

The Exhibition

The exhibition travels the globe, appearing in over 100 cities in around 45 countries throughout the year. The event attracts more than 2 million visitors worldwide and is still expanding each year.

If you’re heading to the Spanish capital from late November, the World Press Photo Exhibition is definitely worth a visit. Look out for cheap flights to Barcelona at for all your late holiday deals.
