23rd December 2018: The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear and that is just what Jet2.com staff did as customers jetted off from Manchester to New York in style today.

This is the first time Jet2.com and Jet2CityBreaks customers will spend Christmas Day in the Big Apple and the company decided to mark the occasion in style, with a transformed New York style check in celebrating everyone’s favourite festive film Elf.

The smash hit movie follows Santa’s elf Buddy (famously played by Will Ferrell), who learns he is actually human and goes to New York City in search of his biological father. Customers arriving at Manchester Airport on Sunday morning were greeted by Buddy the Elf himself, alongside his female companions and a few famous New York landmarks thrown in along the way.

Jet2.com staff handed out Santa and elf hats, along with candy canes to customers checking in for the 10am flight to Newark on Sunday, and also broke out into a number of Christmas songs to entertain holidaymakers checking in for the flight.

The Tate family from Duckingfield, Manchester are travelling to New York not only for Christmas but for Courtney's 21st birthday on Christmas Eve. Travelling with Courtney are her mum and dad  Mark and Sonya Tate, her brother Reece (14) and her boyfriend Bradley Arden.

Courtney said: "I'm really excited to be spending my birthday and Christmas there. "We've got lots planned, it will be Great."

Her mum, Sonya said: "This will be the first time in 20 years I've not cooked a Christmas dinner and I can't wait. "We are really excited for the trip and it's great the effort Jet2.com and Jet2CityBreaks have gone to start the Christmas celebrations at the airport."

Renee Laidlow, from Hull, is travelling to New York with her 14-month-old daughter Estelle and son Xavier (8). She is looking forward to taking her children, along with her partner, to see Father Christmas at Macy's department store on Christmas Eve.

Renee said: "She will love all the Christmas lights. "We are going to go ice skating and go to Central Park on Christmas day."

Linda Constance and Pam Constance from Liverpool got into the festive spirit and donned Santa hats given out by Jet2.com staff.

The best friends say they have always wanted to go to New York and will be going on a cruise on the Hudson on Christmas Eve and then going to Central Park on Christmas day.

Pam said: "We are going to eat, drink and be merry."

Phil Ward, Managing Director of Jet2.com, said: “This is the first year that Jet2.com and Jet2CityBreaks will operate one of our famous New York trips so customers can spend Christmas Day there and what better place to be than the Big Apple for the festive season. To mark this special milestone, we made sure our customers were treated to a VIP experience at check in to start their Christmas celebrations in style.

“I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our customers a very Merry Christmas and I hope they have a fantastic festive trip to New York.”
