Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, has been in Spain recently, meeting with hoteliers, media, and other officials to tell them all about our fantastic Spanish programme as well as what we offer holidaymakers in Spain, such as Jet2Villas and Free Resort Flight Check-in®. What is your view about the growth of tourism in Spain over the years?

This year marks 15 years of Jet2.com flying to Spain, and with over 5.8 million seats on sale this summer, we have enjoyed fantastic growth thanks to Spain remaining a firm favourite with British holidaymakers.

The magic of Spain as a tourist destination is that it offers something for everyone. Whether it is an escape to the beach, a family getaway, a city break, a golfing holiday, a cycling experience, a gastronomic break or even a ski trip to the slopes, Britons can experience all of this in Spain.

This has resulted in increasing numbers of Britons visiting Spain, however the same exceptional standards of resort quality and customer service exist today.

As a result, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays is looking forward to another year of growth in Spain with more seats, more flights, and more 2-5 star hotels and villas on sale than ever. We are very confident that our partnership approach to working with hoteliers and tourist boards in Spain, coupled with our award-winning service, will deliver yet another year of huge success across all 14 of our Spanish destinations.

How has the growth of Spain affected Jet2.com and Jet2holidays?

Jet2holidays is now the UK’s second largest tour operator, and our continual growth and success in Spain is one of just many factors that have helped us succeed as a company.

Today we operate to 14 destinations in Spain, offering something for millions of holidaymakers every year – whether that is sun, city or ski – and that popularity means we have achieved a lot.

For example, we have commenced operations to Spain from two new bases in recent years (London Stansted and Birmingham), increased our fleet size including the addition of brand new Boeing 737-800 aircraft, extended our Jet2CityBreaks product range, and expanded our Free Resort Flight Check-in® service to seven destinations in Spain. On top of all that, in addition to offering award-winning leisure flights and great value package holidays, we now offer Spanish villa holidays with all the benefits of a package through Jet2Villas.

Some airlines and tour operators are modifying their offering. Is that what Jet2.com and Jet2holidays is doing?

Quality and customer experience is at the heart of everything we do. We offer one class of service, and that is VIP class. We walk the walk when it comes to looking after our customers, from the moment they log on to our website right through to when they land back at home. This dedication to customer service is why we are growing and is why we repeatedly beat the competition to win prestigious awards.

Our Free Resort Flight Check-in® service is an example of this. We now offer this service in 200 hotels across seven destinations in Spain, and the reason we have developed and expanded this programme is simple - it is customer-friendly and holidaymakers love it.

People work hard and save hard for their holiday and everyone wants to be treated like a VIP. We strive to ensure that happens for every single one of our customers.

Which do you think will be the main challenges the industry will face in Spain, to match the increase of demand over the next few years?

Since we launched our first flights in 2003, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays has experienced huge growth, as has Spain. Our focus is to continue doing what we do best - filling our aircraft and hotels with happy holidaymakers, and working in partnership with airports, hotels, tourist boards and government to make this happen.
