Helping Customer Retrace Great Uncle’s Epic WWII Tale

Our Customer Helpers are always there to look after customers and ensure that they can create memories on their holidays, and Lisa Smith, a Jet2holidays Customer Helper in Crete really went the extra mile recently.

Lisa was contacted by Annette Jacobsen, a customer who was holidaying on the island with the intention of finding out more about her Great Uncle, who had flown with the RAF during the Second World War but had come down on the Western Coast of the island and subsequently fled, helped by locals.

Lisa supported Mrs Jacobsen and her husband in arranging transport around the island, so that they could get to the site, and even joined them on her day off to help them reach the location. Thanks to this, Mrs Jacobsen was able to find the site and even retrace some of the footsteps that he took to escape the Island. This included spending time in local villages meeting descendants of people who had helped him, and visiting a small cove where he was able to leave the Island in a small boat.

Annette Jacobsen said: “From the beginning of our holiday to the end Lisa was exceptional and went out of her way to help and support us getting to places on the Island that we wouldn’t have had a clue of how to get to otherwise. Through Lisa’s knowledge and her generous nature we were able to gain access to part of my family’s history we didn’t think we’d ever find.”

From start to finish we were greeted by friendly faces and excellent customer service, and the support from Lisa was over and above what we could possibly have expected. We are already planning our next trip back to Crete, next year, to continue the journey my Great Uncle Ed would have taken, and we hope to see Lisa’s smiling face when we return.”
