Fowler Welch acquires Bawdsey Haulage

30th September 2009

Fowler Welch-Coolchain Limited is delighted to announce the recent acquisition of the entire issued share capital of Bawdsey Haulage Ltd. Incorporated in 1999, Bawdsey Haulage provides container logistics services from its base in the Port of Felixstowe. The company employs 45 people and operates a fleet of 28 tractor units and 75 skeletal trailers. The company has revenues of around £4m per annum.

As an established business, Bawdsey Haulage provides excellent service levels to its diverse customer base but the company had been struggling to grow the business during the recent financial crisis. Michael Dabbs, the previous owner felt that the time was right to move on by selling to a larger organisation that could drive the business forward. Bawdsey’s quality workforce and strategic location will be great assets for the enlarged Fowler Welch operation.

Additionally, Fowler Welch is pleased to announce the opening of a new office in Tees-Port. Managed by Kevin Nattrass, the Tees-Port office will coordinate container traffic in the North East region, providing a local presence for clients with links into Fowler Welch’s wider network.

These developments will greatly enhance Fowler Welch’s ability to service its rapidly growing container transport market in Felixstowe and Tees-Port and will augment its existing container operations in Tilbury, Thamesport, Sheerness, Southampton and Liverpool. This strategy is part of Fowler Welch’s aim to deliver a true end-to-end supply chain capability for its existing and future client base.
