Ambient, chilled and FMCG supply-chain specialist, Fowler Welch, has earned another three year contract with award-winning food supplier, Winterbotham Darby.

The just-signed contract will see Fowler Welch store, pick and despatch bakery products to Asda, Tesco, JS Sainsbury, Waitrose and Morrisons from the company’s strategically located facility at Hilsea – the first storage customer at Fowler Welch’s south-coast site.

Fowler Welch’s new contract with Winterbotham Darby includes the company’s ‘unearthed’ brand, promoted with the use of a Fiat 500

Winterbotham stock is produced in the Vendée, in France’s Loire region, and shipped from St. Malo to Portsmouth – less than one mile from Fowler Welch’s Hilsea location.

The proximity of the Hilsea site was key for Winterbotham Darby, who also utilise the services of Fowler Welch’s Teynham location in Kent after appointing Fowler Welch in May 2012. Ultimately, however, as it was last year, it was the ability to provide a bespoke service that prompted Winterbotham Darby to select Fowler Welch.

Ian Render, Operations Manager at Winterbotham Darby, said, “In the last 12 months, Fowler Welch has proved itself a reliable, flexible, storage and distribution solution for us. Like Teynham, the Hilsea service will be intensive and will place high demands on the supply chain. That will take cooperation. We have forged an excellent relationship with the Fowler Welch team in Kent, and I’m looking forward to the same support from Fowler Welch in Hilsea.”

Fowler Welch’s Hilsea location has facilities for both temperature controlled and ambient products with its warehouse area of over 24,000sq.ft. Throughout the year, the Fowler Welch team operates between 35 and 50 vehicles from the depot, depending on seasonal and promotional peak demands, and distributing around 32,000 loads per year.
