Christmas Shopping at Amsterdam’s Famous Art Market

If you’re looking for some unique artwork to give as a gift this Christmas you should check out the brilliant art market on the Spui in Amsterdam. It runs every Sunday until mid-December and features original artwork from local artists.

The Spui is a quaint little square surrounded by cafes and bookshops. In the middle you’ll find one of Amsterdam’s finest art markets where 25 professional artists display their works and sell directly to visitors.

Exhibited works are mostly fine prints and small canvas paintings, but you may often also see small sculptures, ceramic designs and handcrafted affordable jewellery.

About the Whole Experience

But it’s not just about buying artwork; simply wandering around the market with live music playing in the background is a wonderful experience. It’s much more interesting than visiting a gallery as you get to meet all the artists, and can even haggle down the asking price if you’re brave enough.

The art market is open every Sunday from 10am-5pm. You’ll find it in the town centre on the Spui Square, which is around a ten-minute walk from the popular Dam Square.
