Fowler Welch - Coolchain is one of the UK's leading consolidator and distributor of fresh produce, and temperature controlled products to supermarkets and wholesale markets throughout the UK. In addition, Fowler Welch Ambient offers product distribution services to a wide customer base including multinationals and independents across a whole range of industries, from food and drink to paper and plastics.
Temperature controlled services
- Fowler Welch- Coolchain operates a nationwide temperature-controlled distribution system for fresh produce, chilled foods and horticultural products delivering to the UK supermarkets' regional distribution centres, including those of Safeway (now Wm Morrisons), Somerfield and Tesco, regional wholesale markets throughout the UK, as well as to companies that service outlets such as brewery chains, petrol stations, fast food restaurants and convenience stores. Its international subsidiary based in The Netherlands is developing its services within continental Europe. The company provides an efficient, economic transport solution nationwide, working to precise delivery deadlines 24 hours a day, delivering several million pallets of time-sensitive chilled products annually.
Ambient services
- Fowler Welch Ambient offers full warehouse and distribution services and is based in Stockport in Cheshire, with a satellite site at Birmingham.

How long have we been in business?
The company that is now Fowler Welch- Coolchain has been operating for over 30 years. Originally providing specialised daily freight services between the UK and the Channel Islands using the roll-on roll-off ferries and its own scheduled airline, the company broadened its business base within the UK in 1994 with the acquisition of Fowler Welch Ltd based at Spalding Lincolnshire, who had established an excellent reputation for the transportation of temperature-controlled fresh produce. In 1999 Coolchain Ltd, the Kent based distributor of fresh produce, was acquired and most recently, in 2006 the company acquired the goodwill and selected assets of R F Fielding (Cheshire) based in Stockport and Birmingham with their impressive client portfolio including multinationals and independents across a whole range of industries, from food and drink to paper and plastics.
